SPM goes beyond external reporting

In the face of a negative backlash around the perceived failure of microfinance to create a positive impact, information about real client-level results is key

External reporting means transparency on MFI results to donors and investors, as well as to the broader industry. SPM provides MFIs with a firm foundation for reliable external reporting, but ultimately goes beyond this to focus on effective internal reporting.

Having better information about progress towards social goals means:

  • Strategic planning considers both social and financial objectives
  • Internal decision-making at every level that uses reliable information to balance social and financial priorities
  • Identifying and addressing areas of weak performance
  • Communicating social results to all stakeholders
