Microfinance Centre (MFC)

MFC is a regional network whose mission is to contribute to poverty reduction and the development of human potential.
It promotes a socially oriented and sustainable microfinance sector that provides adequate financial and non-financial services to a large number of poor families and micro-entrepreneurs. MFC fulfils its mission by providing high-quality services and building long-term relationships with the microfinance community. An original member of the Imp-Act action research programme, MFC documented key lessons learned and led research on the wider impacts of microfinance.
In 2005, MFC developed the Strategic Management Toolkit and the Quality Audit Tool (QAT) in collaboration with MicroSave, Microfinance Opportunities and Imp-Act. MFC’s regional work with MFIs and national associations includes advocacy, training, sharing experiences and learning, and reporting.
In 2008, MFC began collaborating with support organisations on SPM such as MCPI (Philippines), SANABEL (MENA region), and Terrafina (Ethiopia). MFC delivers training for MFIs on social performance standards reporting to the MiX. Finally, MFC undertakes action research on innovative approaches to SPM, strategic management and social auditing, financial education, and pro-poor product development.
MFC sits on the steering committee of the international Social Performance Task Force and the Smart Campaign.
